Taubman Sucks (the Movie) |
|
In late 2003, award-winning filmmaker Theo Lipfert stumbled across the TaubmanSucks.com website and decided to turn it into a movie. Taubman Sucks, a six-minute documentary, was a project of The Warren Report, a Seattle-based organization that is basically dedicated to anything having to do with movies. (The Warren Report is the eponymous creation of Warren Etheredge, Seattle's quintessential film buff.) The project, officially known as "New Voices 2004," was undertaken in cooperation with 911 Media Arts Center, whose mission is "to support the expressive use of innovative media tools by providing the access, training, and environment needed to create/exhibit works of enduring merit and artistic excellence." Support for the project was also provided by the National Endowment for the Arts and KCTS, the PBS television affiliate in Seattle. Taubman Sucks was premiered at the Seattle Art Museum on June 19, 2004, where it was enthusiastically received by an appreciative audience. The film was enhanced by a dramatic score, which was the creation of Stefan Hakenberg, a gifted composer with whom Lipfert has worked in the past on other film projects. Since the premiere, Taubman Sucks has appeared on television and has been screened at film festivals around the world (schedule below).
